Showcasing Building Learning Power
BLP Spring Conferences
5th February 2009 — St. Paul’s Catholic School, Milton Keynes
10th February 2009 – Twyford Church of England High School, Acton
Both St. Paul’s Catholic School and Twyford Church of England High School began to deepen students’ learning some three years ago. This has hugely enhanced learning and teaching at the schools. These showcase days offer you a unique opportunity to experience one school’s approach to deep learning using the work of Professor Guy Claxton on Building Learning Power.
By the end of the day you will
- have explored the school’s strategic approach to learning
- recognise how and why building students’ learning power is being adopted as a coherent response to the national learning agenda, including the PLTS
- appreciate how this approach to learning changes students’ experience, attitudes and achievement
- have experienced the practice of building students’ learning power first hand
- have considered the applications and implications of such work for your own school
The day will be led by TLO, who have many years’ experience of working with schools throughout the UK on deep learning, learning how to learn, and Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills.
